Walked in the children's parade again this year, although our costumes were low effort compared to last year. We were then off to Grand Rapids to visit the AH crew. It was a whirlwind couple of days but it felt so good seeing everyone, and Auggie had a blast playing with Harrison and Andie. An 11 hour car ride later and we had picked up Justine and were in Moose Lake. Considering all the travel this Summer Auggie has done great. We had a fun week swimming, boating, running up to Duluth and enjoying lake life. Sarah and Matt came up for the last weekend as well - Liam is getting so big. The highlight was going out to Dreamland Supper Club to celebrate John's birthday. Surprisingly good food, and an amazing atmosphere! Big news of the last week was all the babies that were born!!!! From Matthew and Taylor we welcomed Runa, Katie and Eric brough us Henry, and a BIG congratulations to Jacob and Bayeshan who welcomed Roselle into the world. Can't wait to meet you all.

After the cabin we had a week at home before we were off again to the Michigan cottage. On the way we were able to stop and see Julie and Candice - so exciting that they're both expecting! We had a great week at the cottage. It's such a special place. I spent time there every summer growing up and so did my mom, and now Auggie gets to as well. We were able to go blueberry picking, visit a few local restaurants, but mostly spend time on the beach. Halfway through the week Elyse went out to California for a girls trip with her family - it was an incredible trip! Once we got back Auggie transitioned to his big boy bed and he's doing so good with it. We celebrated 4th of July weekend up at the cabin. For the first half Matt, Sara and Liam were up, and we got to help celebrate Liam's 1st Birthday! We had a really nice time hanging with them. Auggie did a good job playing the role of big cousin. Most of the time was spent down at the dock or in a boat; Auggie rode on a paddle board, kayak and pontoon! Auggie ended up loving the water(a real dolphin), and learned to kick his legs and paddle with his arms more than he ever has thanks to Nana being an expert swim instructor. We'll be going back a couple more times this Summer, but it's such a nice place to unwind. Barcelona Auggie was a fantastic traveler the entire duration of the trip, and that started with a nice little nap on the evening flight over to Barcelona. We arrived Monday morning and hit the ground running, meeting Tammy and checking into our airbnb. It was on the top floor and had an amazingly balcony with views of the city, sea and Sagrada Familia. We spent the day walking and exploring the Eixample and Gothic neighborhoods. We all were able to quickly get over jet lag which was a relief. The next day we had reservations for Sagrada Familia - what an incredible space. We then got Churros, enjoyed some tapas with Tam and walked the el Born neighborhood and harbor areas of the city. We sadly had to say good bye to Tammy on Wednesday but Justine came in later that afternoon! We went up to Park Guell which was the only underwhelming thing of the trip. Friday morning we picked up our rental car are were off to Cadaques! CadaquésOn our way to Cadaqués we stumbled upon the most beautiful winery so naturally we had to stop and sample. Cadaqués is a stunning town, and our airbnb there was soooo perfect. It was right on the water above two gelato shops and a HUGE balcony that overlooked the main street. It was prime people, beach and boat watching. There wasn't much to do in Cadaqués besides eat, explore and spend time on the water. Some of the notable meals we had were at Restaurant Gula and Compartir, but everything we had was fantastic. The last full day there we went up to France to drop off Justine and explore the town of Perpignan. Auggie was a great traveler on the return flight, with the worst experience of the trip being the 2.5 hour line for customs in Chicago. Overall we couldn't have asked for a better first international trip with Auggie. School is just getting out, but we've been having some Summer adventures already. We had a nice visit with Aidan and Izzy, toured Elyse's students art show, planted flowers, went to a train museum, celebrated the twins Birthday, rode on a train at Grandma's, went camping in Nana's backyard and watched a parade. Not to bad, but Summer is just getting started. We were the family on the go over Spring Break. While Elyse took 25 High School students to England and Scotland, Chris and Auggie went down to Florida to spend time with the grandparents and Tam. Auggie was a good traveler and enjoyed swimming, going to the zoo and hanging pool side. It was a good practice trip for our Summer adventures in Spain. We took a quick jaunt down to the burbs to see Mark, Marcie and then celebrate St. Patty's day with Aidan and the Fam. The next weekend we celebrated Auggie's Birthday! Choo Choo I'm 2!! It was an awesome day filled with trains, friends and cake! This is a pretty random update of the rest of winter . . . mostly. Notables include Justine coming up for a quick visit, Chris going down to the Suburbs to celebrate Brian's 35th birthday, meeting Frankie!!, Chris's vasectomy, and a fun visit to Titletown. We've gotten more snow the month than the entirety of winter so we are very ready for Spring! Big adventures on the horizon. Things have been considerably quieter since the Holidays. Auggie started a Tumbling class at the local YMCA and he's loving it - maybe by the end of it he'll be able to do a somersault. We took a weekend trip down to Milwaukee to see Chris's folks before they left for Florida. We were able to sneak away for an evening to see Elaine and Dan and finally meet Margot; she is such a sweetie. One the way down we stopped over in Oshkosh and saw Stoney for a lovely brunch. Other notables include an evening at the Wriston faculty art opening, and a date night at with the Simpsons show at the Trout museum. This Holiday Season was a marathon of cheer, cookies, festivities, sickness, drinking, eating, travel, toys, family, exciting announcements, snow, cold and generally a very good time. We picked up Justine the week leading up to Christmas and it was great having her around and spending some quality time with Auggie; he's taken to calling her Tine. Matt, Taylor and the boys came in on Christmas Eve and we had a festive meal at our house while the cousins all chased each other. Christmas day was spent at Leta and Johns and was the perfect amount of food, family and presents. Matt, Sarah and Katie came in on Tuesday and we had a full family Christmas that night. It was so much fun having 5 cousins all under the same roof. The following days were spent going to the Y, Children's Museum and a much needed parents bar crawl. We drove down to Mark and Marci's on Thursday and had another Christmas with them before going to Al and Karen's. We celebrated our 4th Christmas the following day with Gus and Dylan. We were grateful to be able to see Aidan and Izzy who were coming through town on their was to the Packers vs. Vikings game. Auggie did great through all the commotion, even with an ear infection. He's been loving his train set and magnatiles. The biggest news with him is how much he is talking! He's stringing 2 and 3 word phrases together, can count to 10 (he sometimes misses 4), and his vocabulary has blossomed. We're looking forward to laying low, eating healthier and playing with new toys. |
